Too much has been said about Animal Collective’s ‘Merriweather Post-Pavilion’ for me to add anything relevant to the conversation, but I’m going to write anyways so I suppose that makes me a narcissist.
‘MPP’ is a celebration of life. It is the joy of childhood. It is the wide eyed imagination found in the eyes of a kid when he explores the forest or even just their backyard. And it reminds us adults that we all once experienced such feelings.
More joy is found in this album than any other I know except perhaps Panda Bear’s ‘Person Pitch’ (which was really just a blueprint for this one).
If you’ve never heard this album before I suggest mixing a drink, rolling a joint, or whatever it is you do to relax – lay in the grass on a summer day – and soak it in! The heavily reverbed vocals may throw you off first (it did me) but eventually those won’t matter anymore as the tribal pop hooks begin to worm their way forever into your head.
And if you have heard this album before, well I suggest it’s high time you gave it another spin
